Product FAQs
What does the "-EX" suffix stand for?
"-EX" indicates that this unit is certified for Explosion Proof environments or Hazardous Locations. It is a specialized version of the ITMH100 designed for safety in volatile atmospheres.
What specific certifications does the ITMH100-EX hold?
It is typically certified for Class 1, Division 2 (C1D2) and ATEX Zone 2. This guarantees that the device will not create sparks or high surface temperatures capable of igniting flammable gases or vapors during normal operation.
Is the performance the same as the standard ITMH100?
Yes. It retains the powerful Intel® Core™ i5 Tiger Lake processor, meaning you don't have to sacrifice computing power for safety. You get high-performance edge computing inside the hazardous zone.
Where is this model typically used?
It is deployed in Oil Refineries, Drilling Rigs, Chemical Processing Plants, and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing—anywhere flammable gases or dust might be present.
Are the connectors different on the EX model?
Yes. To prevent sparking (arcing), the power and I/O connectors often feature Locking Mechanisms or require the use of cable glands. Standard USB or LAN cables cannot be simply unplugged while the unit is live.
Can I swap the hard drives in the hazardous area?
No. Even if the unit has physical drive bays, safety regulations strictly prohibit opening any covers or swapping drives while in a Hazardous Zone. Maintenance must be performed only after the device is powered down and moved to a Safe Zone.
How is the thermal management handled?
The unit uses a specialized fanless chassis design that strictly limits the Surface Temperature (T-Code). This ensures the outer case never gets hot enough to ignite the specific gas group for which it is rated.
Can it be used as a C1D2 Panel PC?
Yes. It is designed to dock with Winmate’s Explosion-Proof Modular Displays. When combined, they form a fully certified C1D2 HMI system.
Why not just put a standard PC inside an explosion-proof enclosure?
Using an ITMH100-EX is more Space-Efficient and Cost-Effective. Bulky explosion-proof enclosures are expensive, heavy, and trap heat. The ITMH100-EX is intrinsically designed to be safe, eliminating the need for a massive external cabinet.
Is Wi-Fi allowed in hazardous locations with this device?
Yes, provided the antennas and wireless modules are part of the certification package. This allows for real-time data monitoring from the rig or plant floor back to the control room.
